My story...

Kia ora koutou katoa, I’m Ayyam O’Brien.

Originally from Auckland and now proudly based in Rolleston, Christchurch, I’m a New Zealand marriage celebrant who believes that every ceremony should feel genuine, meaningful, and deeply personal.

I became a celebrant because I’m a true romantic at heart. I love witnessing two people choose one another and take that powerful step into commitment. For me, the ceremony isn’t just a formality, it’s the moment where your love story is honoured, shared, and celebrated in a way that feels completely you. 

My priority is getting to know my couples and understanding what matters most to them. Your journey, your values, your culture, your laughter, and even the challenges you’ve overcome, all shape the ceremony I create. That’s how I craft personalised ceremonies that feel heartfelt, relaxed, and full of warmth, never scripted or generic.

I bring a calm, friendly, and positive energy to every celebration, helping you feel supported and confident throughout the process. With a background in community work, public speaking, and MCing, I’m comfortable guiding moments big and small, always with care and authenticity. 

As part of the local Christchurch branch committee for the Celebrants Association of New Zealand (CANZ), I’m passionate about staying connected within the celebrant community, continuing professional development, and keeping up to date within the ever-evolving wedding industry. Over the years, I’ve also built wonderful connections with trusted local vendors, helping create a supportive and seamless experience for my couples.

Outside of celebrant life, I’m also a teacher who adores working with tamariki (Children) and seeing young people grow into themselves. I’m a proud mum to our two beautiful children Leo and Charm, and have been married to my soulmate, Chris, for over 10 years. Family, connection, and love sit at the centre of everything I do — and that naturally flows into the ceremonies I create.
